All copying equipment and computers within public areas of the University must have Copyright warning notices placed on or beside them.
Copyright notice for text, images and printed music (Section 39A, Copyright Act)
This notice deals with the copying of print-based material (text, images and printed music). This notice must be displayed at photocopiers, computers, scanners, fax machines and microfiche copiers that are used by students and other non-staff users.
Copyright notice for audio and audio-visual material (Section 104B, Copyright Act)
This notice relates to the copying of audio and audiovisual items and must be displayed at computers with Internet access, DVD and video-players, CD players and other multi-media equipment used by students and other non-staff users.
Both notices are required for copying equipment that is capable of copying both text, images and printed music as well as audio and audiovisual materials; i.e. any computers with Internet access.
The notices must be displayed with copying equipment that is accessible to students and non-staff, however it is not essential for equipment used only by staff.
A Copyright and network conditions of use notice is displayed via all student use computers. The electronic notice reminds students that all users of the University facilities, resources, infrastructure and systems are required to comply with Australian copyright law and with the University copyright, IT and other policies before they can access the JCU network.
