Safety on the Internet

Suggested guidelines for internet safety for children include:
  • Don't give out your address, phone number or school;
  • Don't arrange to meet anyone you talk to online or send them your picture;
  • People don't always tell the truth on the Internet and are not always who they seem;
  • Tell parents or teachers if you get a nasty message.

  • Cybersmart Kids Online Education program from the Australian Broadcasting Authority to help keep kids safe on the Internet. Provides lesson ideas, recommended sites for children and teenagers, advice for parents.
  • NetAlert Australian site with internet advice for parents
  • Parents' Information Network U.K. site with sections on safety issues and chat sessions
  • Using the Internet: a Positive Learning Experience
    A position paper from the EdNA Schools Advisory Group, looking at safe and appropriate Internet usage.
  • Superhighway Safety - Safe Use of the Internet
    This site by the UK Department for Education and Employment provides information on: making the internet safe; setting up your own website; health and safety; applying safe use of the Internet and more.
