About Connection files

What is a connection file?

Connection files are used to access, search and retrieve references from online library catalogues. You can search these catalogues from within the EndNote program, capture references, and copy them into your EndNote library.

When you use a connection file, you are using the EndNote search engine to search the online catalogue. As the EndNote search engine is unsophisticated, connection files are best suited to simple searches of library catalogues. We recommend using Filter files to import results from other electronic databases.

IF USING A JCU MACHINE TO SEARCH USING A CONNECTION FILE:

To retrieve references from online library catalogues while using EndNote from a campus machine, you need to open a channel through the JCU firewall. To do this, log on to http://authenticate.jcu.edu.au/ and enter your JCU username and password. EndNote can then connect to the library catalogue and download results into your EndNote library.

Where to get Connection files

EndNote is shipped with hundreds of connection files and more can be downloaded from the Internet, from the EndNote product site. These include connections to major American and European university and special/national libraries.

JCU EndNote support has produced a list of connection files to the most commonly used Australian University and special/national Australian resource collections.
