Using JCU EndNote filter files on your home machine

EndNote can only use filter files from a folder it has been directed to look in. You need to download the zipped archive of jcu filters and unzip it to the correct directory in your EndNote program, so that the files are available when you click on the "Tools" "Connect" menu option. Click on the "filter Files" area of this site:

Click on the "Zipped archive of all JCU filters" link:

Save it to your Desktop.

"Zipped" files are archives of files that have been compressed for easier downloading. You must "unzip" them to use the files in them. Right mouse click on the zipped file jcuconnect on your desktop. NB The icon of the file may vary: eg if you are running winzip the icon will look like a file folder with a belt on it, not the pile of books you see below. But the name of the file will be jcuconnect.zip

RIGHT mouse click on the zipped filter file to bring up the following menu. (NB depending on what zipping software you are using, there will be variations in the look of the menu. If you right mouse click and get NO option to extract or expand, you probably don't have archiving or zipping software installed. Go to the winzip site and download a trial copy. (It only lasts for 21 days before you have to buy it.)

Select the "Expand" or "Extract" option and expand or extract the files to the "filters" folder of your EndNote program (usually, but not always in C:\Program Files\Endnote\)

Switch to the EndNote program, and click on the "Edit" menu and select "filter Files" -> "Open Filter Manager" and tick the jcu filter files (NB they all start with JCU so they will appear in a lump in the middle of the filter manager.)

Now when you go to import a file into EndNote using the "File" menu "Import" option, the JCU filters will appear in your drop down options box:

Once you have ticked the files they will stay ticked until you hit the "Unmark All" button in the filters Manager.
