Accessing JCU Network via an ISP

It is recommended that JCU staff and students acquire an ISP account for accessing the JCU Online Services and the Internet. This is by far the easiest and most reliable way of establishing a connection to the Internet and the JCU Online Services. The following information will assist you in locating a suitable ISP and connecting to JCU Online Services.

 

Internet Service Providers

Information on all Australian ISPs or you can locate an Internet Service Providers by entering your phone number at Broadband Choice. If the phone line check is Successful for ADSL compatability then you can use the Plan Search feature to find an ISP plan available in your area that meets your needs.

 

How to access JCU Network Services:

Electronic Mail

Once connected to an ISP you can access your JCU email using JCU WebMail or with a windows mail client. JCU supports either Outlook or Thunderbird mail clients and documentation on how to configure them to access your JCU mail accounts can be found here:

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Some JCU Online Services will require a VPN connection before you can access them. For instructions on setting up a VPN connection see the Making a VPN connection to JCU guide.

You will also need to know your JCU computer account code (login), password and email address. This information will have been mailed to your office if you are a staff member or on your enrolment verification form if you are a student.
