An InfoHelp How To...? Guide
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a private network that uses a public network (usually the Internet) to connect remote sites or users together. Instead of using a dedicated, real-world connection such as leased line, a VPN uses "virtual" connections routed through the Internet from James Cook University's private network to the remote site you are connecting from. What this does is allow you to make a secure connection to JCU and lets your machine behave as though it was on the university network, even though you may physically be sitting at a PC on the other side of the world.
If you are trying to establish a VPN connection from the Walkabout Wireless network on campus, please follow the instructions here.
Note: For security reasons you cannot VPN to a non-JCU network from on the JCU Campus.
