Searching
Search Options - There are four search options on the Welcome Page (see figure 1 below): CC Classic Search, General Search, Advanced Search, and Browse. Either CC Classic Search or General Search can be used as the "basic" search option, depending on your preference. You can also retrieve your saved search queries from a previous session by using the Open Saved Search option.
Figure 1 - Welcome Page
All available editions will be searched across all years by default. You can select other editions and/or time frames, and these limits will be applied throughout the session until you change them by returning to the welcome page or by clicking the Change Settings button on any of the search Pages.
CC Classic Search:
The default search field is Topic/Subject. Other search fields may be selected from the field selection menu.Enter search terms in the search statement box to the right of the field selection menu, or open the field term index to select terms for your search statement.
The help panel provides information about the selected field, or you can click Examples for more assistance.
Search results are displayed in the Search History table at the bottom of the screen, as shown in Figure 2 below. Each row in the table represents a search set, consisting of a set number, number of hits, field name, and search statement. To see the results of a search, click the number in the Results column for the set you wish to view.

General Search:
Enter words or phrases in one or more search fields as in Figure 3 below. If you enter terms in multiple fields, the fields are automatically combined with the AND operator and searched simultaneously.

Figure 3 - General Search
Search Tips:
- Phrases: Records will be found with the words in the order you entered them. For example, water filter matches water filter but not filter water.
- Operators AND, OR, and NOT can be used to combine terms in order to broaden or narrow your search. Using the SAME operator finds words in any order in the same sentence. For example, water SAME filter matches water filter, filter water, filter waste water, water poured through filter, etc.
- Truncation: Use the * symbol. For example, superconduct* matches superconductor, superconductors, superconductivity etc.
Advanced Search:
Use this search option to create complex searches using field tags, set combinations, or a combination of both. Each search term must be prefaced by a field tag. Each set number must be prefaced by a number (#) sign. Search terms and sets must be joined by Boolean operators.

Topic searches may also find related Web sites outside of the Current Contents Connect database, and these are accessed via the eSearch button on the Summary page, as shown in Figure 4 below.
