Introduction

The Australian Bureau of Statistics CLIB 2001 on CD-ROM provides Census Community Profiles and Classification Counts, which can be viewed or printed. The companion 2001 Census Maps on CD provides detailed topographical information that can be used to confirm exact geographic areas, and is particularly useful at Collection District (CD) level.

1. Start CLIB 2001

In Townsville CLIB 2001 is installed on Library PC 10 near the InfoHelp desk. Insert the disc and from the Start menu select Programs and then CLIB 2001. In Cairns CLIB 2001 is available via the GATCF computers by selecting the desktop icon.

On the CLIB home page, click on the link "Select a Region…" under the heading Maps - Topics - Data.

(You can also look up Classification Counts for persons, families or dwellings by state/territory or capital city. See the Help Me link at the top of the page for more information on this.)

2. Select Map Set

Use the drop down menu on the top left of the screen to select which set of maps you wish to view.

CLIB01 Geography Selection

Full descriptions of Australian Standard Geographic Codes (ASGC) and Census Geographic Areas can be found from the CLIB home page by selecting Users Manual indepth guide. Then click on geographic areas under "Census Dictionary and other Reference Material".

3. Use Maps and Text to find Region

Click on the place names on the left of the screen or the map on the right to drill down to the region you are looking for. The screen will be updated each time you make a selection. Click on the back arrow Back Arrow to go back one level or Back to Australia return to the Australia map.

Another option is to search for a specific area. Click on the Search button Search to launch the Geographical Search Facility. Select the state or territories, type in the geographic name and click on Search. Then select one of the search results and click on Go to view the map.

4. Select Region

Change the checkbox from "See Region in Detail" to "Select Region(s)".
Select Region(s)
Then either click on the area of the map or click on the place name on the left of the screen. The areas that you can select from are coloured light yellow (you cannot select from red areas). When you make a selection, the map area and place name will change to orange.

· You can select more than one area to create a custom region.
· If your region is the whole of Australia, click on the filled Australia button Select Australia to select.
· Click on the clear Australia button Deselect Regions to deselect regions.

5. Select Topic and Tables

Once you have selected your region(s) click on "Go to Topics Page" at the top right of the screen.

You can either select a Topic and view the relevant tables, or list all of the Basic Community Profile tables, or Indigenous Community Profile tables, and choose which ones to view. Click on View Data and then select a table to open. The table will be displayed in a new window.

6. Print Documents

Click on Print Document at the top right corner of the table (you may need to scroll across to find it). Some tables will require that the page layout be changed to landscape. To do this, select Properties from the Print window and make sure landscape mode is checked.
