Search Results | Marked List | Publication Search | HelpProQuest 5000 combines a number of index and full text databases including ABI/INFORM Global, Applied Science and Technology Plus, General Science Plus, ProQuest Computing, ProQuest Education Complete, Health and Medical Complete and Social Science Plus. It currently indexes about 4,700 journal titles and provides full text for about 2,800 of those, some back to 1986 but mostly from 1992 or later.
Access and Logging On
- ProQuest 5000 may be accessed via the World Wide Web. From the Library Homepage follow the link to Databases, located underneath Library Resources. Choose Proquest 5000 from the A-Z listing.
- To access from off-campus, login using your JCU username and password at via Remote Access.
Basic Search
Enter a word, words or a specific phrase in the search box. Use the drop-down box to choose a database to search, or leave on Multiple Databases to search the entire collection. Use the drop-down box to choose a date range to search, or leave on All Dates to search all dates. Use the tickboxes to limit to Full-text articles only or to search only for Scholarly journals, if desired. Click Search.Truncation and Wildcards
- Use the truncation character, * , to find documents containing several words with the same root. For example, teach* will find, teach, teacher, teaching.
- Use the wildcard character, ? , in place of a single character in your search terms, when more than one letter is likely to fit that space. For example, organi?ation will find organisation and organization.
Search Results
A list of articles that most closely match your search terms will appear:
- Click on an article title to view the abstract and full-text, if available. You can print and/or email your article from here.
- To print - Click on the
button. This will reformat the article for best printing results and pop up the print box. Choose your printer and click OK.
- To email - Click on the
button. Choose whether you want the brief citation, document summary or the full-text of articles. Choose to send in Plain text (recommended) or HTML. Enter your email address, a subject and a message if desired. Click
.
- The default is to show all of your results in a single list. You can divide your results into Scholarly Journals, Magazines, Trade Publications and Newspapers by clicking on the appropriate tab at the top of your results list.

Marked ListAs you go through your search results, mark or tick the boxes beside your chosen articles.
- Click on the Marked List tab at the top of the screen.
- From here you can Print a bibliography, Email your articles, or Export your citations into EndNote or another bibliographic software program.
To print a Bibliography: Click on Print your bibliography. Choose Citations only or Document Summaries for the citation and abstract. Choose a citation style and click
. Note: This will print only a bibliography list, NOT the full-text of articles.
To Email: Click on Email Marked Documents . Choose whether you want the brief citation, document summary or the full-text of articles. Choose to send in Plain text (recommended) or HTML. Enter your email address, a subject and a message if desired. Click

To Export to EndNote: Click on Export citations. Choose Export directly to ProCite, EndNote or Reference Manager.
Netscape Users: A popup box will ask to Open using risfile, click OK. This will launch the EndNote Program. From here, choose which EndNote library you would like to export your results to.
Internet Explorer Users: The EndNote program will open. From here, choose which EndNote library you would like to export your results to.
Publication Search
Use Publication Search to search for a specific journal. To access, click on the Publication Search tab at the top of the screen.
- Enter all or part of a journal title
- A list of the closest matches will appear. Click on a title, and choose from the list of available volumes/issues.
