Welcome to the JCU library website
for JCU Alumni members!
You learned to rely on your JCU library while you were studying.
You can continue to make good use of your JCU library now that you have graduated, to support your career, your professional development, and your life-long learning.
Joining the library
JCU Alumni members are welcome to take up library membership.
You can join the library by completing the online registration form, or in person at the Lending Services desks in the Cairns and Townsville library buildings.
You should have evidence of your alumni status with you.
The special annual fee for JCU alumni is $27.50 (normally $110.00 to community members).
You can pay by credit card, EFTPOS, cheque or cash.
Borrowing
Generous borrowing privileges are available to alumni.
You can borrow in person from the extensive collection of books, music and videos/DVDs.
You can borrow five books for two weeks at any one time.
Alumni not able to access the collections in person can borrow by mail through the Off Campus Library Service, for an additional fee.
Reference and Restricted Collections
The library has an extensive collection of reference works, printed journals, microforms and local history material that is not available for loan. All of these items can be freely consulted in the library buildings and in most cases can be photocopied as required.
Electronic Resources
The library has licensed access to a large range of electronic resources
including journals, books, indexes and abstracts.
Walk in access is available to most electronic resources in the Townsville and Cairns library buildings. Present your borrower's card and ask the staff at the InfoHelp desk to assist you.
License conditions at present preclude remote online access to electronic resources by alumni.
Our Free Databases and Electronic Journals guide is an excellent source of freely accessible high quality information resources, which will assist you in your professional life. They can be accessed from the JCU network by anyone with a JCU Internet account, and from elsewhere if you have an ISP account.
Information Skills Training
In this new millennium, success is dependent on the ability to identify, locate and analyse relevant information.
The library offers a wide range of information skills training. Alumni are welcome to attend these sessions. Details can be found on InfoHelp's Training web page.
InfoHelp
InfoHelp is JCU's 'one-stop information shop' for library and computing assistance. JCU Alumni are welcome to use it. InfoHelp service points are located in the Library buildings in Cairns and Townsville.
