Access

The Library in Townsville is wheelchair accessible via a ramp to the right of the steps at the front entrance. Access to the first and second floors is via the lift situated opposite the rear stairs.

 All facilities in Cairns are wheelchair accessible.

General Assistance

General information and assistance are available at InfoHelp. Library staff will assist in locating information through the catalogue, Tropicat, or collecting material from the shelves. They will also provide assistance in using reference tools.

Clients can arrange to have a librarian available to provide assistance with longer enquiries and specific subject searches. As advance notice is required, InfoHelp staff should be contacted for an appointment.

Assistance with Photocopying

Arrangements can be made for Library material to be photocopied. Please contact one of the Disabilities Resource Officers: Photocopying can be available for collection within 48 hours.

 

General Facilities - Townsville and Cairns

  • Designated parking is available in the car park at the rear of the Library building. (Townsville)
  • Wheelchair accessible toilets are located:
    • adjacent to the rear stairs on the ground floor (Townsville)
    • opposite the newspaper stand (Cairns)
  • Study carrels and large tables are wheelchair accessible.
  • Ergonomic chairs are available upon request.
  • A photocopier, lowered for access from a wheelchair is located in the Photocopying Unit at each campus.
  • An Oxford large print dictionary is shelved in the Reference Collection. (Townsville)
  • Guide dogs are permitted in all areas of the Library.
  • Wheelchair accessible internal telephones are located:
    • on the ground floor opposite the Loans Desk (Townsville)
    • near the CD-ROM workstations on the first floor (Townsville)
    • outside the University Librarian's office on the second floor (Townsville)
    • near the new books stand (Cairns)
  • Public telephones are located:
    • Outside the entrance of the Library building (Townsville)
    • in the main foyer of building A1 (Cairns)

  • The Library has a range of specialised equipment for use by clients in Townsville and Cairns. Please direct all enquiries to the Disabilities Resource Officer, Marion MacGregor Burgess on (07) 4781 5152.

    • microfiche reader with enlarged magnification lens (Townsville and Cairns)

Loans

Normal loan conditions apply. Persons borrowing on behalf of students with disabilities who are unable to do so themselves are eligible to become Special Borrowers. In certain circumstances extended loans are available.

Loans from other Libraries

Books in audio or Braille formats which can be borrowed from other libraries are listed in the National Union Catalogue of Library Materials for People with Disabilities (NUC:D). This directory is held in the Document Supply Service. Books in these formats may be borrowed on inter-library loan free of charge. Please enquire at InfoHelp.
