Townsville Harbour Board

Townsville Harbour is subject to two controlling bodies, the Marine Board of Queensland and the Townsville Harbour Board (THB). The THB is responsiblefor all matters pertaining to navigation and the latter with the development and maintainance of harbour facilities. The Marine Board is represented by the Harbour Master. The Harbour Board is a corporate body established by an Act of Parliament.

The harbour is an artificial one and is enclosed between two stone breakwaters which afford complete protection for shipping. Revenue is produced by harbour dues, wharfage, rents and water sales.

This collection is a comprehensive coverage of the activities of the Harbour Board from 1918 to 1962. The collection was donated to the Delamothe Collection of North Queensland History and Literarue by the Townsville Harbour Board.
