Arthur Shepherd

Arthur Shepherd was born in Middlesex (England) in 1884. At the age of 14 he began his working life as a sailor on a windjammer. He was a crew member of the ill fated Scottish Prince on her first and last voyage but jumped ship in Australia.

He spent many years in the Gulf and Peninsula country droving and learning bushcraft, stock raising and management. He worked his way from stationhand to manager of Wondovale Station and became a life-long friend of the owner, Edward Mytton.

In the late 1900s Arthur Shepherd acquired Milray Station on which he ran cattle for the next 30 years.

This collection consists of letters to Arthur Shepherd and was donated by a descendent of his, Mrs. Alma Bode.
