Role
The School Librarian works with staff and students to provide optimum library service for the Schools of Anthropology, Archaeology and Sociology, Humanities and Indigenous Australian Studies. Particular responsibilities include:
- Acting as a focus for contact and enquiries from staff and students within the School
- Providing library and information skills education
- Collection development including maintenance of a collection of subject related network resources accessible via the World Wide Web
- Providing suitable induction for new staff and students.

Workshops for your students
- Provide subject specific workshops or lectures for your students to encourage the development of information literacy skills, (usually in scheduled class time).
LearnJCU
- Contribute to online discussion boards, blogs (Journal LX) and wikis (Teams LX) via LearnJCU. This will provide targeted, timely assistance for your students in answering any queries they may have on finding information for their assignments. To provide this service, I will require appropriate access to your LearnJCU subject sites.
Keeping up with the literature
- Assistance with setting up subject / keyword alerts in online databases
- Assistance with navigating Journal Citation reports including
- Researching cited articles
- Journal performance and impact factors
Library Materials
- Assistance with library materials ordering
Services for Under Graduate Students
I can provide you with assistance in developing library research skills and computer skills that will save you time and help you achieve higher marks.
Finding information for assignments
- Assistance with finding information for asignments using appropriate academic sources including library print material and online journals. This assistance can be in the form of small group workshops or short one on one sessions. You get a group of at least 2 people and we can arrange a time and place. My contact details are at the top of this page.
- Social Sciences and Humanities Library Blog
This is a trial service. It will be used by Librarians to communicate new services, coming events, new training sessions and more. You can make any comments on any posts by clicking on the comments link at the bottom of each post. Type in your comments or queries, choose an identity and then click the "publish your comment" button to add your comments to the blog. Any questions you have will be answered.
Computer assistance and workshops
- Small group workshops on getting the best out of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Publisher. You get a group of at least 2 people and we can arrange a time and place. My contact details are at the top of this page.
- Assistance with advanced formatting of large documents.
