Internet Databases

Journal indexing and abstracting services are available via the Internet. Some services also provide the full text of journal articles. These databases may be accessed from off-capmus, by using the Remote Access link on the Databases page.

Some databases that you may find particularly useful for Social Work & Community Welfare are:

  • Informit Online - Includes Australian databases such as APAIS, APAIS-Health, AGIS, FAMILY, CINCH, CINCH-Health, Health & Society Database, DRUG, MAIS, Media Scan, and ATSIS databases.
  • Infotrac - Indexes citations, abstracts, and  full text articles via Expanded Academic ASAP and Health Reference Centre.
  • Social Sciences Plus - Indexes and abstracts more than 400 titles, with half of those available in full text via Proquest 5000.
  • Sociological Abstracts  - Covers articles relevant to sociology, social psychology, social work, anthropology, education, health and medicine.
  • ERIC  - Bibliographic database of educational literature.
  • Current Contents - Indexes a large number of international journals, including the disciplines of Social & Behavioral Sciences and Arts & Humanities.
  • PsycArticles – Provides full text articles from 42 journals in the area of psychiatry and psychology.
  • PsycINFO - Major Psychology database which contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books and technical reports. Journal coverage is from 1887 to date.
  • FirstSearch - Access a range of databases that cover most disciplines, including Social Sciences Abstracts, PAIS,  CWI: Contemporary Women's Issues, and CINAHL: Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health.
  • Web of Science - Access to Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences citation index, Arts & Humanities citation index and Current Contents.

Electronic Journals

Most full text electronic journals subscribed to by the library are listed in Tropicat. An alphabetical list of Ejournals is also available.

These Ejournals may be accessed from off-campus, by using the Remote Access link on the Databases webapage.

Note that the library has many titles in print; some are available in both print and electronic versions.

Guides

InfoHelp have produced a range of print and online guides to help with Library reserach. Guides are available for general library topics such as searching Tropicat - the Library catalogue, and Finding Journal Articles.
