Finding Acts of Parliament - Queensland

Locating Queensland Acts

Note: All titles are held in both Townsville and Cairns unless otherwise indicated.
1. Check Queensland Legislation Reprints (348.943022 P8) for the latest reprint of the act, or access the electronic version at http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/qld/consol_act/

A reprinted act incorporates all amendments made to the act, up to the date of reprint.  In addition to reprinted acts, Queensland Legislation Reprints contains all current Queensland acts.

2. If the act required does not appear in Queensland Legislation Reprints, check the appropriate annual volume of acts at 348.943022 P1, or for acts passed since 1991 the electronic version at http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/Legislation.htm
3. Queensland Legislation Annotations (348.943022 P4A) may be helpful in establishing the date of an act if this is unknown.
4. The subject index at the back of Queensland Legislation Annotations (348.943022 P4A) may be of assistance if the title of the act is unknown.

"Updating" Queensland Acts

Having located an act of parliament it is generally important to check whether the act, or any parts of it, have been repealed or amended.  This procedure is sometimes referred to as "updating" or "noting up" the act.

The following steps should be taken to check for alterations to a Queensland act:

1. Check Queensland Legislation Annotations (348.943022 P4A).

This work lists current Queensland acts alphabetically by title and includes information on assent and commencement dates.

2. Check Queensland Legislation Update Part 1 (348.943022 P4).

This supplement to the Queensland Legislation Annotations will indicate any very recent changes to the legislation.

3. Repealed Queensland legislation is listed in Queensland Legislation Annotations: Repealed legislation (348.943022 P4B).  This work is updated by Queensland Legislation Update part 1 (348.943022 P4).
