For papers dealing with computer
applications in specific disciplines, you may need to consult indexes
and abstracts in that discipline. Identify these using Tropicat, through
a relevant subject guide, or by asking InfoHelp.
INTERNET DATABASE
SERVICES
Many journal indexes are available
in electronic form. The range of indexes available in this way is much
larger than that held in print by any individual library and they often
contain the most up-to-date references. Some databases also provide the
full text of some journals, in addition to the abstract.
Databases
may be accessed from off
campus via Remote Access.
Direct links to the services
listed below are available at this Internet address :
http://www.library.jcu.edu.au/Resources/datasets.shtml
ACM Digital Library
provides citations, abstracts, contents pages and full text articles from
computing journals and conference proceedings published by ACM (Association
for Computing Machinery).
Computer Index Australasia
is an Informit database indexing material from general interest computing
journals.
Current Contents
Connect is a multidisciplinary current awareness
service for over 8,000 journals and more than 2,000 books
InfoTrac provides access
to Expanded Academic ASAP which has some articles in full text.
IngentaConnect provides journal article searches
as well as search alerting and tables of contents services.
ProQuest Computing
is a database for computing research with many journals
provided in full-text.
ScienceDirect has access
to full text for around 300 of 1700 titles, with contents pages and
abstracts for the remainder.
Web of Science
gives access
to Science Citation Index Expanded and other citation indexes.
As well as topic searching for journal articles, the citation indexes
allow "cited reference" searching and enable you to examine
a document's historical origin and follow through to its current position
in the research literature.
Wiley InterScience provides
the full-text of all Wiley journals from 1997 onward.
The Faculty Librarian also
maintains links to Internet
Resources for Information Technology.
ELECTRONIC
JOURNALS
Most full text electronic journals
subscribed to by the library are listed in Tropicat. An alphabetical list
of e-journals
is also available. Access may be by individual title, or by service provider,
e.g. Wiley Interscience. Please contact InfoHelp if passwords are
required. Note that the library holds many titles in print: some are available
in both print and electronic versions.

SOFTWARE
MANUALS The Library does not purchase
working manuals for, or monographs about specific releases of software
