Maps, Atlases & Gazetteers

The Library's collection includes several different kinds of cartographic material. Most items are listed in Tropicat, either individually or as a series. Australian geological map series are held in the periodical collection on the second floor. Topographic maps are located in map cabinets near the InfoHelp desk. Some useful tools are:

Data Metallogenia Data Metallogenica is a global reference system for ore deposit information.

Geobase information for development studies, the Earth sciences, ecology, geomechanics, human geography, and oceanography

GeoRef (via GeoScienceWorld) provides abstracts to the geoscience literature of the world.

IngentaConnect provides journal article searches as well as search alerting and tables of contents services.

Infotrac provides access to Expanded Academic ASAP which has some articles in full text.

INIS: International Nuclear Information System of the International Atomic Energy Agency, is the world’s leading information system on the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology.

ProQuest5000 Databases including Wilson General Science Abstracts giving fulltext coverage of over 2500 journals

Oceanic Abstracts focuses on marine biology and physical oceanography, covering both living and non-living resources, meteorology and geology plus environmental, technological and legislative topics

ScienceDirect Full text for around 290 of the 1700 titles, with contents pages and abstracts for the remainder.

SciFinder Scholar Primarily a chemistry database, but with significant coverage of the life sciences.

Web of Science search current and retrospective multidisciplinary information (inc. science citation index) covering around 9000 journals from 1972+

Wiley Interscience provides full-text of all 311 Wiley journals back to 1997
