STANDARDS AND CODES OF PRACTICE

Standards and codes of practice are an important source of information for engineers.

All Australian Standards are available online at JCU.

The Library does not hold printed copies of all standards, but acquires copies of Australian, British and American standards as required. A catalogue of available standards may be found on the Standards Australia website.

Computer and control abstracts (1969-1999).
TSV R 001.64 P4

Electrical and electronics abstracts (1974-1999).
TSV R 621 P13

Engineering index (1960-1998).

Summary of engineering research (1964+).
TSV R 620.016 ILL

ELECTRONIC DATABASES

Many journal indexes are available in electronic form. The range of indexes available in this way is much larger than that held in print by any individual library and they often contain the most up-to-date references. Some databases also provide the full text of some journals, in addition to the abstract. Databases may be accessed from off campus via Remote Access.

Direct links to the services listed below are available at this Internet address :

http://www.library.jcu.edu.au/Resources/resources.shtml

Current Contents Connect is a multidisciplinary current awareness service for over 8,000 journals and more than 2,000 books

Informit provides access to several engineering databases including Australian Engineering Database (ENGINE), Australian Transport Index, and Chemical Engineering Reference User Bibliography (CHERUB).

InfoTrac provides access to Expanded Academic ASAP which has some articles in full text.

IngentaConnect provides journal article searches as well as search alerting and tables of contents services.

ProQuest includes ProQuest Science Journals and other databases covering a range of disciplines.

ScienceDirect has access to full text for around 300 of the 1700 titles, with contents pages and abstracts for the remainder.

SciFinder Scholar is primarily a chemistry database, but with significant coverage of engineering.

Web of Science gives access to Science Citation Index Expanded and other citation indexes. As well as topic searching for journal articles, the citation indexes allow "cited reference" searching and enable you to examine a document's historical origin and follow through to its current position in the research literature.

Wiley InterScience provides all Wiley journals in full-text from 1997 onward.

The Faculty Librarian also maintains links to Internet resources for Engineering.
