Databases - General Information  

Indexing/Abstracting Databases  

  • Computer Index Australasia (CIA) is an Informit database indexing material from general interest computing journals.
  • Current Contents Connect is a multidisciplinary current awareness service for over 8,000 journals and more than 2,000 books      
  • IngentaConnect provides book and journal article searches as well as search alerting and tables of contents services.
  • Web of Science Access to Science Citation Index Expanded and other citation indexes. As well as topic searching for journal articles, the citation indexes allow "cited reference" searching and enable you to examine a document's historical origin and follow through to its current position in the research literature.

Full text databases and electronic journals

  • ACM Digital Library provides citations, abstracts, contents pages and full text articles from computing journals and conference proceedings published by ACM (Association for Computing Machinery).
  • Expanded Academic ASAP - (via InfoTrac) - full-text articles from around 2,000 journals, and abstracts or citations for many more.
  • ProQuest Computing is a ProQuest database for computing research with many journals provided in full-text.
  • ScienceDirect - Full text for around 290 of the 1700 titles, with contents pages and abstracts for the remainder
  • Wiley InterScience - provides full-text of all 311 Wiley journals back to 1997.
  • ProQuest 5000 includes ProQuest Computing and other databases covering a range of disciplines.
  • Electronic journals - linked, alphabetical listing of full-text journals available to members of James Cook University. You can also link directly to journals via Tropicat: the JCU Library Catalogue

  • CiteSeer A scientific literature digital library and search engine that focuses primarily on the literature in computer and information science
  • The Collection of computer science bibliographies Contains over two million references, primarily journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports, collected from over 1,500 bibliographies. Over half of the references have links to full text
  • EEVL's Ejournal Search Engines Search the content of over 250 freely available full-text ejournals in Engineering, Mathematics & Computing
  • Energy Citations Database Developed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI). Provides access to DOE publicly available citations from 1948 to the present. Includes citations to report literature, conference papers, journal articles, books, dissertations, and patents
  • EprintWeb e-print service in the fields of physics, mathematics, non-linear science, computer science, and quantitative biology. Searchable & browseable with reference linking across the entire content
  • GrayLIT Network A science portal for technical report information
  • TechXtra in Engineering, Mathematics, and Computing Provides access Web sites and to "grey literature" such as dissertations, industry news, technical reports, e-prints, newsletters
