Databases and web search engines have features which allow you to focus or refine your search.

By understanding and using these features, you can search more efficiently and effectively.

The following screens will explain these search features:

  • Help
  • Vocabulary (controlled and uncontrolled)
  • Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT)
  • Truncation
  • Field and cross-field searching
  • Limiting searches (date, language, format, etc.)
  • Phrase searching
  • Proximity searching
