Internet Database Services
Many journal indexing and abstracting services are available via the Internet. Some services also provide the full text of journal articles. Certain databases may require passwords, available from InfoHelp. All of the electronic database services that JCU subscribes to are listed on the Electronic Databases page, or through the Subject Resources page.Some databases that you may find particularly useful for Psychology are:
PsycINFO Major psychology database which contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, and technical reports. Journal coverage is from 1887 to date.
Informit Online Includes Australian databases such as APAIS, AEI, FAMILY, H&S: Health & Society Database, and AMI: Australian Medical Index.
InfoTrac Indexes citations, abstracts, and full text articles via Expanded Academic ASAP and Health Reference Center.
Social Sciences Plus Text Available via ProQuest 5000, more than half the 400 journals indexed are also available in full text.
Sociological Abstracts Covers articles relevant to sociology and related disciplines.
ERIC Bibliographic database of educational literature. Includes educational psychology. Many ERIC documents from 1993 on are available in full text as pdf files.
FirstSearch A range of databases that cover most disciplines, including Social Sciences Abstracts, Arts & Humanities Search (citation index), Humanities Abstracts, and CINAHL: Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health.
MEDLINE via Ovid Premier database of health and medicine produced by the National Library of Medicine (USA). Also accessible via PubMed.
The School Librarian also maintains links to Internet Resources for Psychology.
Electronic Journals
Most full text electronic journals subscribed to by the library are listed in Tropicat. ejournals is also available.
Access may be by individual title, or by service provider, e.g. Infotrac. Please contact InfoHelp if passwords are required.
