Internet Database Services

Many journal indexing and abstracting services are available via the Internet. Some services also provide the full text of a range of journals. Certain databases may require passwords which can be obtained from InfoHelp on presentation of your student card. All of the electronic database services that JCU subscribes to are listed on the Electronic Databases page, or through the Subject Resources page.

Social Science Plus
Available via ProQuest 5000, more than half the 400 journals indexed are also available in full text.

Sociological Abstracts
Access restricted to University network.

ERIC
Bibliographic database of educational literature.

FirstSearch 
A range of databases that cover most disciplines, including Arts & Humanities Search (citation index), Humanities Abstracts and CINAHL: Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health.

Informit Online
Access to over 50 of the leading Australian databases such as APAIS, AEI: Australian Education Index, Family, AMI: Australian Meidcal Index.

InfoTrac 
Indexes citations, abstracts and full text articles via Expanded Academic ASAP and Health Reference Centre.

Medline
PubMed, a gratis version of Medline from the National Library of Medicine (USA).  

PsycINFO
Indexes material in the areas of psychology, sociology, psychiatry and anthropology. Coverage is from 1887.



CD-ROM Databases

Some journal indexing and abstracting publications can be searched using CD-ROM. The CD-ROM service is free and operates on a self-service basis.
NOTE: These discs are no longer current, but may be used for example if the Internet is not available.


Electronic Journals

Most full text electronic journals subscribed to by the library are listed in Tropicat. An alphabetical list of ejournals is also available. Access may be by individual title, or via a service provider, e.g. InfoTrac. Please contact InfoHelp if passwords are required. Note that the library holds many titles in print; some are available in both print and electronic versions.
