  • Armidale Politics Page - Provides links to the Australian government, constitution, current affairs, political studies at Australian universities and links to other useful sites.
  • Australian Government Entry Point - Gateway to all Commonwealth information, services and departments.
  • Australian Government Information - Covers all aspects of Australian Government information. Includes state and territory governments, local governments, political parties, legislation and more.
  • Australian Politics - Information on elections, government, parliament, political parties and other resources.
  • Hansard - Provides access to the Senate Hansard, the House of Representatives Hansard and Senate, House of Representatives and Joint Committee transcripts.
  • JCU Political Science Page (H.Lesbirel) - Provides general information, internet links and course information for political science.
  • Parliament of Australia - Information about Australia's parliamentary system. Covers legislation, Senate, House of Representatives and Committees, Hansard and a who's who listing of parliamentary figures and services.
  • Political Leaders (Australia) - Provides a comprehensive listing of Australian prime ministers and other important political figures.
  • Public Record - An ABC website which aims to provide an easy-to-use, fast-find guide to the latest on elections, parliaments, current issues, events and debates in Australia, with contemporary material relating to Australia's federal system of government and democracy.

Political Organisations Resources

  • American Political Science Association - The major professional society for people who study politics, government and public policies in the US and around the world.
  • Australasian Political Studies Association - Lists departments and political science courses that are available, as well as some useful links.
  • International Political Science Association - Information about IPSA and their current activities, organisational links and political science.
  • Political Parties and Organisations - Provides links to Australian registered parties and organisations, other Australian political entities and parties from all over the world including Canada, Japan, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, United States of America and other countries.
  • United Nations Homepage - Comprehensive site on all aspects and issues of the United Nations. Covers topical areas including peace and security, economics and social development, human rights and other important issues and general UN information.

Public Policy Resources

  • Centre for the Study of Public Policy - This organisation researches areas of public policy. Their projects and publications are linked to this site and are available for purchase.
  • JCU Political Science guides and web resources - Provides general information, links and course information for public policy.
  • OnTheIssues - This resource covers leading research, opinions and events that are shaping public policy on issues including education, technology, healthcare. Also covers news events, reports and issues, community information and more. U.S.A. site.
  • Public Agenda Online - A public opinion research and citizen education organisation. It covers topical issues such as abortion, crime, gambling, drugs and more.
  • Social Science Information Gateway: Social Policy - Provides Internet links to social policy resources, articles, databases, government and public journals and organisations.
  • Yahoo: Public Policy - Provides a comprehensive Internet resource listing for public policy.

Electronic Journals

  • The Electronic Journal of Australian and New Zealand History - An initiative of the School of History & Politics, James Cook University and the Department of History, Melbourne University.
  • Australian Review of Public Affairs - "To reflect upon and evaluate the design and redesign of Australia's public policies and institutions, as well as Australia's relations and responsibilities in the broader world community." Provided by the School of Economics and Political Science, University of Sydney
  • Crikey.com - Focuses on news, facts and commentry mainstream media is not prepared to publish. Crikey focuses on politics, the media and business and is self-described as "bringing down governments since September '99, bringing down chairmen since March 2000."

Databases

  • AltPressIndex - Indexes journals covering cultural, economic, political & social change. Via FirstSearch and requires a password from Infohelp.
  • AHB (Informit Online) - Australian Heritage Information, provides access to information on Australia's natural and cultural environment.
  • AHRR (Informit Online) - A list of paper-based records held in private collections within Australia.
  • APAIS (Informit Online) - Australian Public Affairs Information Service indexes current journals and newspapers in Australia and overseas for material on Australia's political, economic, legal, social and cultural affairs.
  • APAFT (Informit Online) - Australian Public Affairs Full Text, a subset of APAIS.
  • Auschron (Informit Online) - A chronology of events in Australian history.
  • Blackwells Publishing Journals online - Database with coverage in Humanities, Social Sciences and Science with full text access to subscribed journals.
  • Current Contents Connect - Covers most disciplines including arts and humanities and provides access to tables of contents and bibliographic data from many journals.
  • Expanded Academic (InfoTrac) - Indexes periodical articles from a broad range of subject areas and includes the full-text forsubscribed journals.
  • JSTOR - Archived social sciences, humanities and science journals, some dating from the late 1800s to the late 1990s and is full text.
  • MIHILIST (Informit Online) - The Australasian Military History database, indexes material on the pre-1980 military history of Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
  • Oxford Journals Online - Tables of contents, abstracts and the full text articles for most of the journals published by the Oxford University Press. Coverage of about 150 titles in all areas of science, the arts and humanities, will gradually increase as more OUP titles are published online.
  • Project Muse - Access 40+ scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences and mathematics (full-text).
