If you are off campus using your own internet service provider you have to enable remote access before you can use JCU subscribed resources.

Business Focus is a current awareness and resource finding blog maintained by the Liaison Librarians for the School of Business. It's a great way of discovering new resources and keeping up to date on JCU Library issues that effect your studies.

Databases

  • ABI/Inform Global - key international business and management database. Links to the full text of many journal articles. Available via Proquest.
  • Accounting and Taxation - features cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts to 300 key publications in accounting, auditing, and financial management from the U.S. and overseas. Also included are citations to relevant articles from over 800 newspapers, business journals, dissertations, and news magazines. Part of the ABI/Inform Global (see above) suite of databases.
  • ATO Legal Database - produced by the Australian Taxation Office this service includes information on public rulings and determinations on taxation law.
  • Australian Accounting and Taxation : AATD - a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts published and unpublished material on accounting and related business topics.
  • Australian Bureau of Statistics - provides web based information and data collected and analysed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
  • Australian Public Affairs Full Text - focuses on humanities and social sciences in Australia with a healthy dose of financial articles.
  • CCH - specialising in taxation, legal and business information. Password required, contact Infohelp.
  • ComLaw - great locating and viewing relevant Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation.
  • DatAnalysis - provides reports for all companies listed on the ASX and other financial information. The Company Reports section provides comprehensive data for all ASX listed companies. These reports are updated daily from relevant ASX announcements and include details about each company such as a Business Summary, Directors & Management, Company History, Listing Details, Operational History, Takeovers, Capital Table, and Complete Annual Reports. A reporting tool allows you to create your own reports from the database to print or download.
  • Econlit - covers subjects from accounting, consumer economics, monetary policy, labor, marketing, demographics, modeling, economic theory, planning, and more.
  • IngentaConnect - a large social sciences database which indexes accounting and finance journals. Links to full text articles in many cases.
  • Emerald Intelligence + Fulltext - focuses on the business and management aspects of financial accounting.
  • Expanded Academic ASAP - indexes articles of general academic interest. Links to the full text of many journal articles. Available via InfoTrac.
  • TAXABS: Australian Taxation Abstracts - a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts journals primarily in the area of taxation law but also including other areas of interest such as child support, accounting, business, finance and superannuation.
  • VALISE - Victorian Audit Library Information Service Database (VALISE), produced by the Victorian Auditor-General's Office, is a bibliographic database that indexes articles on auditing and related business topics. Subject coverage includes auditing; internal auditing; public finance; public administration; selected articles on business, politics and economic conditions as they relate to public affairs; computing; management and training information with a government bias; and a small number of Victorian government media releases.

E-Books

JCU library provides access to a number of e-books, viewable by anyone with a current JCU account and an internet connected computer. These items are listed in Tropicat. A small sample of what's available follows:

  • Accounting Research Network (ARN) is dedicated to increasing communication among scholars and practitioners of accounting worldwide.
  • American Stock Exchange - comprehensive resource for investors and issuers.
  • Australian Accounting Research Foundation
  • Australian Accounting Standards Board
  • Australian Prudential Regulation Authority - oversees banks, credit unions, building societies, general insurance and reinsurance companies, life insurance, friendly societies, and most members of the superannuation industry.
  • Australian Securities and Investments Commission - provides information relating to companies, investors, consumers, small business, and legalislative changes.
  • Australian Stock Exchange - provides information and online classes for a range of users from professionals to first time investors.
  • Australian Taxation Office - the Government's principal revenue collection agency, manages tax, excise and superannuation systems.
  • The Balanced Scorecard Institute - a resource for managers to obtain information, ideas and lessons learned in building strategic management and performance measurement systems using the balanced scorecard methodology.
  • Commonwealth Treasury - focuses on government spending, taxation arrangements, budget policy issues, trends in Commonwealth revenue, major fiscal and financial aggregates, major expenditure programmes, taxation policy, retirement income, Commonwealth-State financial policy, actuarial services, macroeconomic policy including monetary and fiscal policy, labour market issues, competition policy, consumer protection and foreign investment.
  • CPA Australia - one of the largest professional accounting associations in the world focussing on member services and advocacy in areas of financial reporting, taxation and corporate governance.
  • Financial Planning Association of Australia - an educational, promotional and advocacy group for objective and professional advice in making financial decision making.
  • Financial Research Integrity Network - an Australian Research Council funded network of academic and financial institutions aimed at innovation in the integrity and efficiency of Australia's financial system.
  • Institute of Management Accountants - for management accounting and financial professionals to develop and advance their careers through certification, research, practice development education, networking and the advocacy of the highest ethical and professional practices.
  • International Accounting Standards Board - advocates a single set of high quality, understandable and enforceable global accounting standards that require transparent and comparable information in general purpose financial statements.
