If you are off campus using your own internet service provider you have to enable remote access before you can use JCU subscribed resources.

Business Focus is a current awareness and resource finding blog maintained by the Liaison Librarians for the School of Business. It's a great way of discovering new resources and keeping up to date on JCU Library issues that effect your studies.

Databases

  • ABI Inform Global - key international business and management database, includes economics content. Available online via Proquest Direct; provides citations, abstracts and full text of many journal articles.
  • APEC Literature Database - a bibliographic database that indexes published and unpublished items dealing with Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and related topics.
  • Asia-Studies Full-Text Online - the exclusive licensee for many of the region's most prestigious research institutions (including APEC, the Asian Development Bank and the East-West Institute brings together thousands of full-text reports and journal articlescovering 53 countries on a multitude of business, government, economic, and social issues.
  • Australian Public Affairs-Full Text - a wide ranging Australia-specific database with links to many full-text articles.
  • Blackwell Synergy - search all the articles from the full stable of Blackwell Publishing's e-journals. Links to many full-text articles.
  • Cambridge Journals Online - search for articles from Cambridge stable of journals. Links to many full-text articles.
  • Econlit - a bibliographic database that indexes economics literature throughout the world and links to some full-text articles in economics journals. It abstracts books and indexes articles in books, working papers series, and dissertations. EconLit also provides the full-text of JEL book reviews.
  • EconPapers - provides access to the largest collection of online Economics working papers and journal articles. The majority of the full text files are freely available, but some (typically journal articles) are only accessible where JCU subscribes to the service providing the full text file.
  • Expanded Academic ASAP - InfoTrac provides citations, abstracts and for many journals the full-text of articles.
  • Giblin Working Papers Database -  is a bibliographic database that indexes working papers, research papers and discussion papers from major universities and research institutes in Australia, Europe and the USA. Subject coverage includes economics, econometrics, economic modelling, finance, accounting, banking, international trade, taxation, management, marketing and employee relations.
  • Ingenta Connect - one of the most comprehensive collections of academic and professional research articles online - some 17 million articles from 28,000 publications, including 6,100 online. Links to some full-text articles.
  • SpringerLink - indexes the Springer-Verlag stable of scientific and technical journals with link their full-text versions, JCU Library provides access to many of these titles.

Journals

The University subscribes to thousands of electronic journals that you can access from any internet capable computer. The following list is a selection of key economics journals, that is far from exhaustive (holdings differ between suppliers - check Tropicat for paper holdings and other other sources):

Economics (Australia)

  • ABS AusStats - a web based information service providing the full standard product range of the Australian Bureau of Statistics on-line.
  • Australian APEC Study Centre - unit of Monash University, role is to research, to inform and to promote discussion on issues related to Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation.
  • Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics - ABARE is an Australian government economic research agency noted for its professionally independent research and analysis.
  • Economic Indicators on the Internet - links to chief sources of Australian economic indicators, maintained the parliamentary library in Canberra.
  • Reserve Bank of Australia - the RBA's main responsibility is monetary policy. Its objectives include achieving low and stable inflation over the medium term, maintaining financial system stability and promoting the safety and efficiency of the payments system. The site contains a variety of fiscal and monetary statistical date with long historical time series.

Economics (International)

  • AgEcon - a full text library of agricultural and applied economics scholarly literature.
  • ArgMax - contains economics news, data, and analysis, as well as various other economics related services. Compiled by Prof John Irons who has held various academic and policy positions in finance and economics.
  • Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation - APEC is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Bank for International Settlements - BIS is an international organisation which fosters cooperation among central banks and other agencies in pursuit of monetary and financial stability.
  • Biz/Ed - resources for students and educators on business and economics related subjects. The site contains current issues, company information, data sets and learning resources.
  • Deardorff's Glossary of International Economics - definitions of terms, interactive graphs, lists of related concepts and information of the origins of various terms.
  • DocuTicker Business and Economics Archive - offers a hand-picked selection of resources, reports and publications from government agencies, NGOs, think tanks and other public interest organizations.
  • DocuTicker Industries Archive - offers a hand-picked selection of resources, reports and publications from government agencies, NGOs, think tanks and other public interest organizations.
  • Economic Growth Resources - extensive resource on economic growth hosted by the University of Bristol.
  • Economist Intelligence Unit - assesses and forecasts political, economic and business conditions worldwide, some information freely available on website.
  • Economic History Services - provides a wide range of internet-based services to economic historians, historians of economics, economists, historians, related social scientists and the public. Including an Ask the Professor service, research abstract and book review series, a collection of course syllabi, a directory of economic historians, the EH.Net Encyclopedia of Economic and Business History, several databases, numerous links to websites related to economic history, and the popular "How Much Is That?" service - which allows users to easily look up historical prices, interest rates, wage rates, GDP statistics, exchange rates and inflation rates.
  • Economics Gateway - provides links to resources which have bbeen evaluated and categorised by subject specialists based at UK universities. Aim to match resources to the economics curriculum and the needs of researchers. The target audience is students, staff and researchers in higher and further education.
  • Economics Research Network - is dedicated to increasing communication among economics scholars, practitioners, and policymakers throughout the world. The site includes abstracts, full-text papers and articles from over 25 economics journals, searchable through the Social Sciences Research Network's electronic library.
  • Economics Search Engine - ESE ("ease") indexes 300,000 pages on 10,000 economics web sites from around the world. It is a companion to Resources for Economists on the Internet (RFE) and is sponsored by the American Economic Association.
  • The Economist's Economics A-Z - a glossary of terms and ideas.
  • EconWPA - Economics Working Paper Archive - from Economics Dept Washington University, provides free distribution of working papers, covers 22 subject areas, majority of papers available in PDF format.
  • Financial Economics Research Network - publishes research in financial economics including corporate finance, banking and financial institutions, capital markets, derivatives and real estate .
  • The H. John Heinz III Center For Science, Economics And The Environment - is a nonprofit institution dedicated to improving the scientific and economic foundation for environmental policy through multisectoral collaboration among industry, government, academia, and environmental organizations.
  • Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy - originally formed to explore the underlying causes of America's rural crisis in the 1980s, it continues to propose policies that would benefit farmers, consumers, rural communities and the environment
  • International Economic Statistics Database - simplifies the search for world-wide economic indicators. Individual indicators (such as GDP and CPI) are linked to the source documents on institutional web sites around the world.
  • International Monetary Fund - the IMF is an organization of 184 countries, working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty.
  • Inomics - the 'internet site for economists', extensive listing or resources, includes search facility.

  • The Little Green Data Book - represents a succinct collection of information from the World Bank's World Development Indicators.
  • National Bureau of Economic Research (USA) - a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization which aims to promote greater understanding of the economy.
  • Nereus - an EU-funded project to develop information services to connect existing essential research resources and to unlock new content from top economics faculties across Europe.
  • Online Economic Textbooks - a regularly updated list of economics text books freely available on the web.
  • Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development -  the OECD groups 30 member countries sharing a commitment to democratic government and the market economy. It has active relationships with some 70 other countries, NGOs and civil society. Best known for its publications and its statistics, its work covers economic and social issues from macroeconomics, to trade, education, development and science and innovation. It helps governments to ensure the responsiveness of key economic areas with sectoral monitoring. By deciphering emerging issues and identifying policies that work, it helps policy-makers adopt strategic orientations.
  • Virtual International Business & Economic Sources - includes articles, research reports, statistical tables and graphs, and "meta pages".
  • WebEc-WWW Resources in Economics - an effort to categorize free information in economics on the WWW.
  • Wikipedia list of business ethics, political economy, and philosophy of business topics
  • Wikipedia entry for economics
  • World Bank - The World Bank Group’s mission is to fight poverty and improve the living standards of people in the developing world. It is a development bank which provides loans, policy advice, technical assistance and knowledge sharing services to low and middle income countries to reduce poverty.
  • World Trade Organisation- the WTO is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified in their parliaments..
