- Music Index Online
A subject-author guide to music periodical literature covering over 800 international music periodicals and offering the researcher access to a wealth of historiographic, ethnographic, and musicological data. A broad range of subjects is indexed, including musicians, the history of music, forms of music, musical instruments from the earliest times to computer produced music. In addition, book reviews, reviews of music recordings, tapes, and performances are indexed. First performances and obituaries are noted.
- Naxos Music Library This database provides access to over 5,000 CDs of music recordings which can be played online. You can search for music by genre, composer, title of piece, and other variables listed in the 'advanced search' option. Notes on the works and biographical information on composers and performers are also available. (Nb. You need Internet Explorer 6.0 and Media Player 9.0 to play the recordings.)
- Grove Music Online
"Comprises the full text of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, second edition, edited by Stanley Sadie and John Tyrrell (London, 2001), The New Grove Dictionary of Opera, edited by Stanley Sadie (London, 1992), and The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, second edition, edited by Barry Kernfeld (London, 2002). Articles that have been updated since their appearance in print are date-stamped in the upper right corner of the screen".

Proquest provides articles in abstract as well as full text across a range of subjects in the Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities - including music. Use the search box to find articles, or browse the broad subjects Music & musicians, Musical instruments and Types of music.
