Indexing/Abstracting Databases  

  • Agricola Access to global information for agriculture
  • Biological Abstracts is a major source of references to the life science journal literature (use BIOSIS Previews for 2002+)
  • CAB Direct covering all aspects of the life sciences
  • Current Contents Connect is a multidisciplinary current awareness service for over 8,000 journals and more than 2,000 books
  • Endanger: Threatened Species in Australia Indexes published and unpublished material on Australian threatened flora and fauna and related topics
  • Faculty of 1000 Biology Reviews and evaluates the most interesting papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of a faculty of well over 1000 selected leading researchers.
  • IngentaConnect provides book and journal article searches as well as search alerting and tables of contents services.
  • The International Plant Names Index Database of the names and associated basic bibliographical details of all seed plants. Includes records previously published in Index Kewensis and in Australian Plant Names Index.
  • SciFinder Scholar Primarily a chemistry database, but with significant coverage of the life sciences.
  • Web of Science Access to Science Citation Index Expanded and other citation indexes. As well as topic searching for journal articles, the citation indexes allow "cited reference" searching and enable you to examine a document's historical origin and follow through to its current position in the research literature.

Full text databases and electronic journals

  • BioOne Access is provided to over 65 bioscience research journals from more than 50 publishers
  • Expanded Academic ASAP - (via InfoTrac) - full-text articles from around 2,000 journals, and abstracts or citations for many more.
  • ScienceDirect - full-text for around 300 of 1700 titles, with contents pages and abstracts for the remainder.
  • Wiley InterScience - provides full-text of around 400 Wiley journals back to 1997.
  • ProQuest includes ProQuest Science Journals and other databases covering a range of disciplines.
  • Electronic journals - linked, alphabetical listing of full-text journals available to members of James Cook University
  • You can also link directly to journals via Tropicat: the JCU Library Catalogue

  • AgEcon Search A full-text library of agricultural and applied economics scholarly literature
  • AGRIS International agricultural research, as well as grey literature such as white papers and informally published reports
  • arXiv.org e-Print Archive Fully automated electronic archive and distribution server for research papers in Physics, Mathematics, Nonlinear Sciences, Computer Science and Quantitative Biology
  • BioMed Central - publishes peer reviewed research across all areas of biology and medicine with free access for all
